After 3 introductions in English of the previous editions and an introduction to this edition in Gaelic, this book contains 60 poems, in Gaelic only ( no translations ), whereas other editions contain either just the basic original 31, or with also a supplement of 8 extra poems(=39). It is also printed in the new ( reformed ) spelling system rather than the, more difficult to understand, older spelling system used by Mac Mhaighstir and his original publishers, but the text is the same.
This edition includes the well-known, but not my favourites” Moladh Mòraig “, ” Mì-mholadh Mòraig “, and my two favorites:
” Fàilte na Mòr-thìr ” ( ” Fàilt’ ort fhèin, a mhòr-thìr bhòidheach… ” ) in the full text of 58 couplets ( the 33 of the first publication and 25 of amendments / unattested ) , the first stanzas of which I saw quoted on a panel in front of the cemetery of St Maelrubha’s Chapel, Kilmory Church in Arisaig where the author is ( said to be ) buried, and the full text of the long epic poem ” Bìrlinn Chlann Raghnaill “, which is not usually included at all in the other editions of ” Aiseirigh ” / ” The Poetical Works of Alexander MacDonald “.
This book is presently not available at The Gaelic Bookshop but is still available in ” other places “.
