Join us on Friday afternoon, 24th May at the Gaelic Books Council for the launch of An Cat Coigreach with author June Graham!
This event is for children aged 8-12 and Gaelic learners of all ages! We’ll have juice & biscuits, a wee game, and the author will read aloud from the book. A summary will be provided in English. The reading will be followed by a book signing. There will also be a chance to chat with Bradan Press publisher Emily McEwan who is visiting from Nova Scotia, Canada.
Pangur is a black cat living happily with his family in Bern, a beautiful city in Switzerland – until the day they decide to return to Scotland! Now he is a foreign cat in Stornoway in the Isle of Lewis, and the other cats are not being kind to him. Pangur decides to leave the island and return to Bern. Surely his family will return too when the autumn storms start… won’t they? Follow Pangur’s adventures across the country, escaping from one danger after the next, until he learns the importance of friends and family.
June Graham received the 2019 Scottish Book Trust New Writers Award for Gaelic Children’s Fiction. An Cat Coigreach is the winner of the award for Best Unpublished Manuscript for Children/Young People at the Gaelic Literature Awards 2022.

Join Rody Gorman for an afternoon of discussion of Celtic myth, legend and language, with Meg Bateman.
The tale of Sweeney, the mad and exiled king, has enchanted storytellers for a milenium, and in this hugely ambitious multilingual work, Sweeney – An Intertonguing, poet Rody Gorman recasts the medieval Irish text Buile Shuibhne – ‘The Frenzy of Sweeney’ – into English, Manx and Scottish Gaelic with intertonguing.
Rody Gorman is a Gaelic and Irish poet living and working in the Isle of Skye. He has many collections to his name, including Lorg Eile / Final Call (Francis Boutle Publishers, 2022) and Sa Chnoc (CLÀR, 2023).
Meg Bateman is a Gaelic poet, academic and storyteller and teaches at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig. She has a keen interest in Celtic myth and medieval poetry.
This event will be in Gaelic and English, with readings in Irish and Manx.

Come on into the shop to celebrate the launch of Paddington in Gaelic, with drinks and nibbles.
The Gaelic bookshop in Partick will be keeping its doors open later than usual to give you a chance to browse and pick up a copy of the new Gaelic Paddington book. Meet the Gaelic translator (Gillebride MacMillan), sample some marmalade sandwiches, and help yourself to a glass of wine while we celebrate the beloved bear.
This event is aimed at adults, although children are welcome.
