Aonghas “Dubh” MacNeacail (1942-2022)

It is with sadness that we received news of the death of Aonghas MacNeacail, an exceptional poet who campaigned for the Gaelic language and inspired many other writers. Aonghas achieved international recognition for his poetry and won many prizes, including the Bardic Crown at the National Mod in 2004 and the Féile Filíochta in the same year. He leaves a legacy to Gaelic literature that will be treasured by readers, and those of us who knew him personally will miss him tremendously. The staff and board of the Gaelic Books Council extend our sincere sympathy to Gerda, Robbie, Galina and Aonghas’s whole family at this difficult time.
