Agus an là glan geal a’ glasadh
Agus an t-sìde mharbh a’ mùthadh,
Sheas mi gu h-àrd air Bealach Garbh
Shìos fo mo chois na chnoc-seallaidh
Gun duine nam ghaoith ’s gun ghuth
’S chunna mi ’n Cuan Sgìth bhuam air fàire

’S e na chlàr-deighe ’s na raon-dìle
’S na fhairge throm ag èirigh tìde mu seach
Agus thall san àird a tuath Cuan Uibhist
Agus nam aisling ann saothair mun tràigh
’S iomadh blàth mun mhachair agus bodha
’S mun t-slat-mhara caochladh ròn is dhòbhran

Far am biodh nan linn de chlann-daoine
’S bha ’n talamh-ìseal ud a’ dol fon uisge
Mar Thìr fo Thuinn agus Tìr a’ Gheallaidh
Shuas aig deas agus Eileanan an Àigh
’S mealbhain Thiriodh is na Hearadh Ìleach, tha fios,
A’ nochdadh dìreach tiota no dhà ’s a’ falbh a-rithist

Anns a’ ghrèin a’ dol seachad is a’ dol fodha
’S Ròcabarraigh sa cheann mu dheireadh a’ tighinn ris
Is, mo lom, de sgrios mar a chuireadh air mhanadh
Leis na Gàidheil nan aimsir fhèin bho chionn fhada,
Mo chreach is mo lèir, an t-saoghail, gun tighinn
Air Tuvalu ’s Palau ’s Kiribati ’s Grenada.

With whitebright daylight greengraylocking and the deadsultry weather noveltykillchanging, I stood up on Bealach Garbh down underfoot as a watch-hill with not a manperson windnear me or a bardtauntvoice and I saw the Minch over there on the dawnhorizon like an ice-sheet and a floodplain and a pregnantdeepheavy angryswellsea rising times about and over in the farmpeoplecountrynorth the Little Minch and in my dream there a birth-paintidal-island around the tideshore and many a warmwhiteflower around the low-lyinglevelsandybeachmachairplain and submerged brakerrock and around the pizzletangle dyingchangeseveral fetterfrothseals and wet-placebeaverotters where there used to be manpersonchildren in their generationtime and the lowlands were going under water like Atlantis and the Promised Land up to the quicksouth from me and the Isles of the Blest and the creepingbent-grass sand-dunes of Tiree and the Rhinns of  Islay, it must be, nakedviewappearing straightup for just a moment or two and disappearing again in the sun going past and setting and Rockall appearing at last and all the destruction incantationapparitionprophesied by the Gaels in their weathereraseasontime long ago, not to come to mention Tuvulu and Paulu and Kiribati and Grenada.
