Book launch: Govanhill Mythology – Beul-aithris Chnoc a’ Ghobhainn

14 November 2024 6:30 pm

The poetry collection Govanhill Mythology is tied to the heart of the Govanhill community in Glasgow. At one time infamous as the murder capital of Europe, it is now a lively, compassionate part of the city. The poet Shane Johnstone was raised in Govanhill and has watched the district by the Clyde change over the years. From poverty, poor health and crime, Govanhill is now a comfortable home to many, with diverse dialects, languages and cultures. The poems in the book acknowledge the loss brought about by this rapid change while recognising the improvements to the community’s welfare.

Shane Johnstone will be reading his poetry and in conversation with Niall O’Gallagher.

This is a Gaelic event.
