The Gaelic Books Council are asking people to send them their unusual Gaelic words and phrases.

During World Gaelic Week (Seachdain na Gàidhlig), the Gaelic Books Council will be collecting Gaelic words from members of the public that are now seldom used for a project with Anna Frater, the An Comunn Gàidhealach Crowned Bard. Anna Frater will turn to her craft and write a poem using these words in an effort to preserve the essence and meaning of them.

If you have any Gaelic words or phrases that are rarely used these days, tell us about them!

You can email us at [email protected] or send us a DM on Instagram or Facebook.

Thursday  26th of February is Say a Gaelic Phrase Day. Use #sayagaelicphraseday to share your word far and wide.

The new poem will be launched as a special event in Stornoway in 2026.
