Celebrating the land, language and people of the Hebrides
20 October 2022 6:00 pm
An evening with the authors of three new books on Hebridean life. Rody Gorman, one of the Gaelic translators for Derek Robertson’s book Bho Bheul an Eòin/From The Bird’s Mouth, gives Gaelic names to new bird and animal species driven north by climate change.
Will Maclean’s book, Compelled by Memory (co-written by Marian Leven and Arthur Watson) charts the historic battle for land on Lewis commemorated in the designer’s epic stone monuments.
Lesley Riddoch’s Riddoch on the Outer Hebrides updates her portrait of island life penned after cycling from Barra to the Butt fifteen years ago and describes the challenges facing new community landowners.
The three writers will give brief talks, chat together and sign books afterwards.
