The Gaelic Books Council provides assistance for publishers who wish to publish Scottish Gaelic literature by offering funding opportunities through commission and publication grants. The Gaelic Books Council is not a publisher; however, we can provide advice and guidance regarding the next step towards publication.
Applications are invited on a quarterly basis during the financial year (April-March), and are assessed within a designated timeframe.
Please note, a decision regarding your application may be delayed if you fail to submit all requested material.
Please note also that we do not provide retrospective funding.
Grants Committee
The Grants Committee decides whether applications should be supported and the level of funding that should be provided. The committee is made up of selected members of the Board of the Gaelic Books Council. For 2026-27, the Grants Committee currently comprises Peigi MacVicar and Aonghas MacCoinnich (and one other member to be appointed June 2026).
