Born in 1819, Lachan Livingstone - known as "Lachan Dubh a' Chrògain" (Black Lachie of Croggan) - was bard and piper to MacLaine of Lochbuie in Mull until his death in 1901. He was also a village poet of great repute. His grandsons - John, James and Lachlan MacDonald from Lismore - continued the tradition of song-making well into the twentieth century. In this book, Margaret MacDonald Lobban, Black Lachie's great-granddaughter, pays affectionate tribute to a family who so enriched the music and lore of their island communities.
