Description

Grace Note Publications, 2014.  210 pages.

In 1942 Ethel MacCallum was evacuated from an orphanage in Glasgow to the Island of Tiree where she became fluent in Gelic and absorbed a wealth of tradition.  Her natural gift of music and song was encouraged and she composed music and songs in Gaelic and English.

Though established musicians perform her compositions, her original work has not been previously published.  Her life story, both fascinating and moving, along with her songs and music is the subject of this book and CD, which also aims to support the Gaelic language and help maintain Gaelic tradition in music and song.

Informative book about a resilient gifted person. I very much enjoyed the poetry and music. Fine book’s contents with Scottish Gaelic / English bilingual prose text, black and white photos , text of the songs, translations of the songs and staves of the music.
