EDITION: Parallel translation. Unusually the Gaelic is on the right with the English on the left.
The back blurb and the ” ROIMH-RADH ” by the adapter / translator, Uilleam Nèill , are in Gaelic only.
At the back are notes of explanation, in Gaelic only, of some of the proper nouns in the text, then 4 blank pages for your own notes, illustrated by some flowery branches ( a nice touch to prevent 5 totally blank pages at the end, due to the binding format ).
LANGUAGE + SPELLING: The parallel translation will help the beginner. The adapter has updated the 12th century text and spelling into ” Gàidhlig an latha an diugh “, well not quite by now. Some words, not many, are in the older spelling and the written accents are both with some ascending ( as in Irish ), some descending as presently all of them in Scottish Gaelic: This spelling and accent system follows the spelling system of the MacLellan 1979>1985 dictionary. This should be no / little problem for any reader. The adapted language itself is simple enough for the beginner / intermediate reader.
There are 2 typing ( rather than spelling ) mistakes, only one missing written accent and one error of inattention – being so obvious and not affecting comprehension of the sentence – rather than mistake in the translation. So, for the whole book, a rather good editing.
PLOT / STORY: Can be a bit strange in parts; then, goes with the subject. As is traditional in such tales there are threefold repetitions of situations with small variations each time and a different conclusion the third time; this doesn’t become wearisome, as it is expected, and indeed can be of help to the learner to meet reiterations of the words, expressions and sentences.
CONCLUSION: A good little book for the price.

The dictionary mentioned above is the Malcom MACLENNAN ( 1979>1985 ) hardback edition by Acair and Aberdeen University Press; the Dwelly dictionary forms are generally similar, but there are spelling differences too.

PS: THE WORD ” buile ” IN TITLE:
If one is wondering: nothing to do with the Scottish Gaelic word ” buile ” ( end, conclusion, perfection ), but is the Irish form ” buile ” for madness kept in the title as the well known form of the 12th century work.
The equivalent Scottish Gaelic form would be ” boil / boile ” ; both from Early Irish ” baile “.
